1- LONDON

Hy everyone and happy Sunday! I'm excited to be finally writing about the numer one city of my Top 15 Cosmopolitan Cities Around the World list, LONDON!!!! London is the city I've been dreaming and looking forward to visting for years, and the one I hope I'll visit soon.

First of all, I suggest watching this short video to be placed and we'll start right after.

1- General information

Located in the south east of the island of Great Britain and standing on the River Thames, London is the capital and most populated city of both England and the United Kingdom. The estimated population of Greater London (the urban city) is around 8.6 million people, the largest of any city in the European Union. The city's metropolitan area, with about 14 million inhabitants, is also the most populous in the European Union.
With its numerous museums, great universities, constant events and celebrations, London is a cultural capital city. Some of the most important events the ciy has held include three Summer Olympic Games  and the annual Wimbledon Tennis Tournament.

London has been a major settlement since is foundation two thousand years ago by the Romans, who called it Londinium. Some of the city's nicknames nowadays are The City of the Queen, The Swinging City and The city and the square mile.

2- Landmarks
London is very rich in culture and history, not only having incredible monuments but also outstanding museums.
The city even has four monuments and attractions listed by the UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.
1- Palace of Westminster (usually called Houses of Parliament) and Westminster Abbey. Palace of Westminster is mostly known among tourists because of its tower with the Big Ben watch. However, the most important of this building is the fact that it hosts both houses of the UK Parliament.

2- Tower of London, officially Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London,is a historic building located in the city centre, very close to the River Thames.

3- Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site is a unique central district which comprises the Royal Palace and related institutional buildings and the historic town centre.

4- Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew is a large botanic garden with 120 hectares located in the south eastern part of the city.

Those are the World Heritage Sites, but there are many other buildings in the city which are worth visiting, such as Buckingham Palace, London Eye, Picadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square. If you want to know more landmarks, visit 25 must-see arquitectural landmarks in London

There are loads of great museums along the city which are worth visiting. But don't you worry about the prize! Some of them like the British Museum and the National Gallery are free, and others like Madame Tussauds cost around 30€, but they're definitely worth visitng.
British Museum is one of the most visited museums, not only in the city but all over the world. It hosts amazing and diverse collections about the human knowledge: art, history, arqueology...

Madame Tussauds, the most famous wax museum all over the world, migh not seem really outstanding from the outside, but it defnitely is a compulsory stop when visiting London

Some people might complain (and I completely understand) about the fact that London is a very very expensive city. Here I share a video of things you can do in London for free. Enjoy it!

3- People
Being probably the most Cosmopolitan city all over the world, constantly growing and developing, London is a great example of coexistence between cultures. In fact, a quarter of the city's inhabitants are part of ethnic minorities and over 300 different languages are spoken daily in the city.

4- Food
The British are not particularly famous for their tasty food but for their international cuisine on offer, especially in such a diverse city as London. Nevertheless, there are some typical British meals which can be definitely found in London:
Probaby the most traditonal British food, fish and chips. It's usually cod, haddock or plaice (those two aren't eaten in Spain) deep fried accompained with chips (French fries). Sometimes it also includes onion rings. Some might think it's a very simple meal, but cooked properly it's really tasty. From my point of view, every tourist should try it at lesat once.

Full English Breakfast, also called fry-up. Contrary to what many people think, it's only eaten on special ocassions. It's a hearty breakfast consisting on fried eggs, sausages, beans, bacon, mushrooms and fried tomato served with toast on the side. Sometimes it also has black pudding. It's a really caloric dish, but it'll be balanced by the many kilometres you'll have to walk during your trip to the city.

Finally, the dessert which has caught my attention is the bread and butter pudding. Made with two layers of bread and dried grapes baked in cream it seems to be a really delicious pastry.

5- Films and Tv series
The most famous film located in London is definitely  the Harry Potter series. This city has become such an important icon of the city, that Warner Bros Studio has created a Harry Potter Tour.

Another major hit were Bridget Jones' movies.
I've mentioned a couple of the most famous films set in the amazing city, but there are hundreds of good movies set in London: Sherlock Holmes, V for Vendetta, Notting Hill, 28 days later, Dirty Pretty Things, Mary Poppins... You wanna know the best movies recorded in the city? Click here

The most famous television show set in the city among me and my friends is probably Sherlock. Nevertheless, there are other good ones such as The thick of it, Peep Show and Lucer. Here's a map of Tv series set in London.
