3- BUENOS AIRES

Hy everyone! We're entering the Top 3 cities of my list, so this is getting interesting. Buenos Aires is a city which really appeals to me in part because a large proportion of my family which I'd like to visit soon lives there, but also because of its cosmopolitism and contast growth. Are you intrigued now about a city which you may not have thought much of before? Read the following post and you won't remain indifferent.

1- General information

Buenos Aires is the largest and most populated city and capital of Argentina. The city is located on the western shore of the estuary of Río de la Plata, in the south of the American country.
Within the city, there are 2.9 million inhabitants, but including the metropolitan area, this number rises to 14.5 million people, being the 4th most populous metroploitan area in America..

Buenos Aires was established as "Ciudad de Nuestra Señora Santa María del Buen Ayre" ("City of Our Lady Saint Mary of the Fair Winds" in English) in 1536. The city was controlled by Spain for three centuries, until it became independent in 1810. Throughout the 19th century, Buenos Aires attracted hundreds of thousands of inmigrants and the city grew massively, becoming one of the most Cosmopolitan cities all over the world, which still maintains these days.

2- Landmarks
There are several hystorical and artistic buildings which are worth visiting in the city. The most remarkable ones for me are the following:

Casa Rosada (Pink House in English), located in Plaza de Mayo is the seat of the Argentine's National Government apart from the house and office of the country's president (Mauricio Macri nowadays).

Because of its amazing architecture and the personalities who rest on it, the Recoleta Cementery is one of the most famous and visited cementeries all over the world.

Teatro Colón is one of the most important opera theatres all over the world becuase of its huge dimensions as well as its perfect acoustics. Definitely an obligatory stop for music lovers.

3- People
Most of the city's population is descent of European, mainly Spanish and Italian. Moreover, Buenos Aires has the largest Jewish community in Latin America. As a result, Buenos Aires is a lively and Cosmopolitan city in which it's possible to meet people from all over the world and where Spanglish (a mixture of Spanish and English) is more and more spoken.

4- Food
As I said before, a large proportion of the city's populations descents from Italian and Spanish people, and that's noticeable in the food.

Meat plays a main role in the citizen's diet. Therefore, every visitor must try a traditional roast before leaving the city.

Another typical dish from Argentina and the capital are the "empanadillas" (pasties), usually with a beef filling have  nothing in common with the pasties eaten in Spain.

Finally, the most traditional dessert is Alfajor. It's a traditional sweet with over 130 years' history. Its main singularity is its "dulce de leche" filling(I haven't found its translation into English). Its cover is usually sugar or chocolate.

Having Argentinan family, I've had the chance to try all those dishes, which I enjoy quite a lot in exception of Alfajores which are too sweet to me.

5- Films and TV Series
Regarding Tv series, they're mostly soap operas (a genre I'm not particularly fan of) and aren't very well-known out of South America.

In the film genre, there are several Argentinian films set in Buenos Aires, but I'll focus on the American ones set in the city and which are more famous all around the globe. One of the most famous ones is the films starred by Brad Pitt Seven Years in Tibet. Other titles include Focus, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Moonraker.
