6- NEW YORK

Hy everyone! Today's post is probably one of the most appealing ones. The City that never sleeps, The Big Apple. The Empire City... Everyone knows now which city I'm talking about: New York! Let's start!

1- General information

New York City, often reduced to New York or even NYC or NY is the capital city of the northeastern American  State of New York. With an estimated population of 8.85 million people, NYC is the most populous and most densely populated city in the United States. Including the metropolitan area, the population of the city reaches to 23.6 million people, being the second in America right after Mexico City.

2- Landmarks
New York City is usually thought of as The City of the Skyscrapers. Nevertheless, it's much more tan that. There are numerous landmarks all along the city which are worth seeing:

First of all, of course, the Statue of Liberty, one of the mayor tourist attractions in the city. The statue, which France gave to America as a gift to simbolize their frienship in 1886, holds a museum inside.

The Empire State Building, the most famous and loved building of the city, is 443 metre-high skyscraper which was built in 1931. Moreover, it holded the highest building worldwide record for 40 years.

If there's a representative park of the city, it's definitely Central Park, the largest parl in NYC and one of the largest of all over the world.  In its 340 hectares (the equivalent of 340 football fields) it includes man-made lakes, waterfalls and even a zoo and some other attractions.

Those are the landmarks which seem to be the most representatives of this vibrant city to me. However, there are many other which I haven't mentioned, 30 to be accurate.

3- People
It is obvious to anyody that New York is a large multicultural city. We see it in the news, don't we? But, up to what point? Apart from being home to lots of Americans from other states, almost 4 out of every NY residents were born in another country. That made in 2013 a total of 3.08 million inhabitants who were born aborad, the record of all its history and turning NY into the city with the highest number of foreign residents all over the world.

4- Food
Being one of the most Cosmopolitan cities all over the globe, New York City offers a large repertory of cuisines from everywhere. Nevertheless, it's also possible to find some traditional and iconic meals from this amazing city (most of which are now famous all over the world)

Fried chicken and waffles, which might seem an extravagant combination of a couple dishes enough tasty themselves, came up at 1940s at a jazz club . It was crowded at 2 a,m and the choice between serving late dinner or early breakfast was resolved with this strange combination. Nevertheless, there are more and more people who are supporters and lovers of this meal. I suggest if you once have the chance to go to New York, just give it a try!

Bagels: it was in the 1800s when Eastern European Jewish brought bagels to New York. This type of bread with a ring shape, made with a large amount of yeast and boiled before cooked in the oven, has now lots of varieties  made with diffrent cereals or even apt for celiacswhich. However, don't forget you won't find anywhere such a delicious bagel as  in New York. Here I share the link to a page which talks about the best bagels in the city

Last but not least, cronut is a pastry in between a doughnut and a croissant. Worlwide famous nowadays, it isn't by far as old as the previous foods. Even though it might seem unbelievable, cronut only has 4 years' history! It was Chef Dominique Ansel's idea. This is his own webpage

5- Films and TV Series

"If you can make it here you can make it anywhere" was sang by Sinatra in his Theme from New York. Maybe that's the thinking behind so many films and television series using the ever-growing city as their location. Consequently, everybody knows loads of films and some TV series too set in the city. "What's the point of this part, then?" You might ask yourself. Well, in this part, I will write the name of the productions I consider the most representative ones while sharing some links for more information.

When  talking about films, the ones which come to my mind are the series Night at the Museum. Other great ones are Brooklyn, Men in Black, Home Alone, Limitless and Catch me if you can. Here's a list of the Top 100 New York's films.

The sitcom Friends is probably the most representatiive of the city for both older and newer generations. Nevertheless, there are many other Tv series set in the city such as Ugly Betty, Sex and The City, Gossip Girl, Seinfeld.... Here I share a list of most of the shows set in NYC

6- More information
New York is composed by five boroughs, which are like huge neighbourhoods which take themselves the major administrative decisions of the city. Those are in order of popularity  Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Bronx and Queens.
