14- WASHINGTON D.C.

Hey guys! Today's post has served me to learn quite a lot of interesting facts about the capital city of the most powerful country in the world, the USA. Let's start!

1- General information

Even the estimated population of the city is not the staggering one many people would  suppose out of the capital of the USA (700,000 inhabitants), the Washington metropolitan area, has a population of over 6 million, one of the largest in the country.
Washington D.C. is located in the District of Columbia, which is among the states of Virginia and Maryland, in the East Coast (NOT IN THE STATE OF WASHINGTON). This is important so you won't live mistaken as I did until recently (I thought Washington D.C. was the capital of the state of Washington, in the West Coast and I had no idea it was on the other side of the country)
In terms of age, the city of Washington is quite modern: it was founded in 1791 to serve as the capital and it was name in honour of President George Washington. If you want to know more of its history click here

2- Landmarks
Washington D.C., as the capital city of the USA it is, holds several political related business such as The White House, The CapitolThe National Mall Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials

The White House

The Capitol

The National Mall
The Lincoln Memorial

The Jefferson Memorial

3- People
Washington D.C. holds 176 foreign embassies, which turns it into a great multicultural city in which many other languages tan English are spoken daily.

4- Food
Food in Washington D.C. doesn't differ much from other parts of America, but there's a traditional meal I wanna talk about.
It's called half-smoke, and it's a local sausage delicacy similar to a hot dog, but with some differences. It's usually larger and spicier, the meat is often half-pork half-beef, smoked and served with herves, onion and chilly sauce.

5- Films and TV Series
There are quite lots of Tv series set in American's capital city.

One of the most significant ones is House of Cards, which represents perfectly the challenges people have to face to combine both power and family and the dreams they have to give up in order to achieve bigger ones (My brother has talked to me great about this Tv series and I want to watch it when I have some more time).

Among all the films, I'm going to choose a four- movie series (there are three books but three series) which has been absolutely successful in the latest years among youths and I never get tired of watching: The Hunger GamesThe Capitol appears quite often in these thrilling and astounding movies.
